New at the NAMM: the e 912 Boundary Microphone
At the NAMM Show in Anaheim, audio specialist Sennheiser will be unveiling its new boundary microphone in the "evolution" line: the e 912. A companion to the e 901, a boundary model specially developed for bass drums, the e 912 has been designed for picking up speech, vocals and acoustic instruments, especially pianos and concert grands.
"The e 912 is an ideal solution for a wide range of applications: from musical instruments to theater or opera house stages, from conferences to churches or lecterns," says Stephan Scherthan, Sennheiser´s product manager for wired microphones. The prepolarized condenser microphone with half-cardioid pick-up pattern has a wide frequency response (from 20 to 20,000 Hertz) and a maximum sound pressure level of 136 dB. Its very flat housing makes the microphone nicely inconspicuous, although it is extremely robust and can well cope with rough treatment.
A rubber plate on the underside of the e 912 ensures that vibrations are not transmitted; it has mounting slots underneath enabling the microphone to be installed securely on a stage, on conference tables or lecterns. The e 912 weighs in at an impressive 550 g, enabling it to be stably positioned even where installations are not fixed. The preamplifier electronics are already integrated into the microphone; the gold-plated XLR-3 connector is surrounded by the enclosure in such a way that the connector of the microphone cable is also protected. The e 912 is available in two colors - off-white and black - that help it blend in nicely with the installation environment. With the e 912, users have a professional, versatile microphone that will rise to the challenge, whatever their needs may be in terms of picking up speech, vocals or instruments.
