Everything under control – with the Wireless Systems Manager
A new version of the Sennheiser “Wireless Systems Manager” software makes working with the audio specialist’s microphone and monitoring systems even easier. At IBC 2009, in a “sneak preview”, Sennheiser is presenting version 3.2 of the control software.
Numerous wireless micro¬phones, and in addition wireless monitoring systems: In the broadcast studio and at large shows it is essential for the sound engineer to work with control software. With the software, the equipment can be pre-programmed; it helps to locate free radio channels, shows where there may be reception problems, and clearly displays all transmitter and receiver parameters “live” on a computer. In brief: it hugely facilitates the sound engineer’s work in the hectic live situation.
“From November onwards we are making version 3.2 available for download to our customers free of charge”, says Sven Boetcher, Product Manager for Professional Systems. “This version makes it possible to establish networks with up to six locations. This is particularly advantageous for applications in the broadcast studio and for communication between the monitor and the FOH desks. And good news for Mac users: the new Wireless Systems Manager now also runs on Intel Macs.”
Proven advantages
Shorter set-up times: With the Wireless Systems Manager, all of the settings for a transmission channel can also be set on the laptop instead of on the equipment itself. The sound or RF engineer can programme in advance “off-line” – sitting in the office or on the tour bus. At the site of operation the microphone receivers and monitor transmitters are simply connected to the laptop via an Ethernet switch and the data is transferred.

Spectrum analyser: Via a connected receiver, the Wireless Systems Manager will automatically scan the frequency spectrum on location. RF signal strength: Is the radio signal reliably stable in any area of the stage or the studio? With the software and a wireless microphone, the sound engineer can check whether a sufficiently strong signal is reaching the antennas – and optimise the antenna positions if necessary. Clear display: For every transmission channel the Wireless Systems Manager creates a specific window. These windows can be sized and arranged on the screen in any way to suit the user. Warning signals, e.g. a low-battery warning, are reliably transmitted. If not all of the microphones and monitoring systems are in use all of the time, as is the case for example with theatre and musical performances, the sound engineer can select which channels he wishes to see displayed at which point in time. |
Mac compatibility: The new version 3.2 of the Wireless Systems Manager now also runs on Intel Macs, starting with MacOS 10.4.
Network: Up to six computers can access the wireless system with the new Wireless Systems Manager, on an equal footing or with clearly assigned access rights. “The work is made even easier with this type of network”, explains Sven Boetcher. “For example, in the broadcast studio the rack-mount equipment can be kept in the engineering room and the respective receivers and transmitters can be easily accessed from every control room. During a concert, the monitor or RF engineer can also make data accessible to the FOH location.”
About the Sennheiser Wireless Systems Manager
The “Wireless Systems Manger” software can control 2000 and 3000 Series microphone and monitoring systems, as well as evolution wireless 300 G3 and evolution wireless 500 G3 systems, also in mix ed systems. Older equipment such as the EM 3532 and evolution wireless series 300 G2 and 500 G2 can be linked in via the NET 1 network system. The new software version can be downloaded free of charge from the WSM microsite www.sennheiser.com/wsm from November onwards.
