TV enjoyment at your own volume: the Set 840-TV and Set 840 S RF wireless systems from Sennheiser ensure perfect sound

No matter whether you’re watching your favourite soap, a quiz show or a sports programme: Set 840-TV lets you enjoy television at your own personal volume. The assistive listening system from audio specialist Sennheiser guarantees excellent stereo sound that can be individually adjusted to your hearing ability. And without the inconvenience of cables. The audio signal is transmitted to the receiver up to a distance of 100 metres, which means that Set 840-TV allows you complete freedom of movement. In addition to the stethoset version, the Set 840 S listening system is also available for use with hearing aids or headphones.

Spending a cosy evening watching television with your family and friends sounds like fun, but if you have hearing difficulties it is not without its problems. Especially when you want to listen to the television at your own volume and with the optimum audio settings for your listening ability. For others in the room, the TV is much too loud, whereas you can hardly hear what is being said. In such cases, Set 840-TV from Sennheiser offers the ideal solution, as it can be customised to suit the listener’s personal hearing ability – regardless of how the TV’s volume is set. The listening system lets you follow all of the loud and quiet scenes on the screen in optimum audio quality, either using Set 840-TV, customised to your individual needs, or through the television’s loudspeakers.

Enjoy wireless sound
Even if you want to go into the kitchen and make a cup of tea, the system’s wireless RF technology allows you complete freedom of movement. Set 840-TV can even transmit its sound through walls. Once it is connected to an audio source, the transmitter of the listening system automatically sends the radio frequency signals to the receiver. The wireless RF system is ideally suited for use with plasma screens, as no transmission interference is caused by infrared radiation from the television.

And the stethoset receiver is not only ideal for television sound, it can also be used to listen to music from a hi-fi system or radio in excellent audio quality. It has a reception radius of up to 100 metres, which means that you can listen to your favourite CD even when you’re in the garden. And for hours on end too, as the soft, movable ear cushions and a weight of only 68 grams ensure that the stethoset receiver is still comfortable even when worn for a long time. A powerful lithium polymer accupack guarantees up to nine hours of uninterrupted operation, no matter whether you’re watching TV or listening to music.

Simple adjustment
Ergonomic controls and visual feedback of individual settings make the Set 840-TV exceptionally easy to operate. The volume is adjusted by a large, easy to use volume control directly on the receiver. There you can also find the balance control for setting the volume level for the right and left ear. In addition, the RF wireless set also has switchable functions that adjust the sound individually to the listener’s hearing. In particular, these enhance speech intelligibility. “Optimum speech intelligibility is particularly important when watching television. After all, you want to understand what people are saying,” explained Oliver Berg, Product Manager for Audiology Products at Sennheiser. “Set 840-TV has a switchable compression function that balances out unpleasant differences in volume between quiet and loud sounds, while an individually selectable treble gain function allows those with a hearing impair-ment to understand speech more clearly.”

The receiver switches itself on automatically as soon as the earbows are opened. For recharging, the receiver is simply placed in the charger – charging begins automati-cally regardless of which way round the receiver is inserted. For the RF transmission, the user can also conveniently choose from three different transmission channels simply by moving a sliding control on the transmitter.

Perfect sound also for hearing aid wearers
Wearers of hearing aids can also enjoy the benefits of the TV listening system. The Set 840 S product version has been specially designed for use with hearing aids with a T switch. The advantages of the listening system are the same as those of the stethoset version: Set 840 S features individually adjustable sound, easy handling and an elegant appearance. The main difference is that the sound is transmitted from the receiver to a hearing aid via an induction neckloop that is included in the set. Alternatively, induction couplers and headphones can also be connected to the lightweight receiver – ensuring that nothing can spoil your cosy evening with your friends in front of the TV.

Sets 840-TV and 840 S will be available in stores worldwide from August.
