evolution wireless G3 500 Series
offers optimum audio and wireless qualities
Never before has the evolution wireless series been closer to the professional league: the evolution wireless G3 500 Series appeals to professionals with a package of features that is unique in its class. From the Ethernet connector for monitoring via PC right through to the true condenser capsule of the e 965 for the handheld transmitter – the 500 Series puts top technology both on stage and backstage.
“The impressive features of the 500 Series are its sound, its absolute suitability for touring and its frequency agility,” explained Product Manager Martin Fischer. “The switching bandwidth is 42 MHz, which is equivalent to up to 1,680 possible transmitter frequencies per frequency range. The ‘Soundcheck Mode’ for the audio and RF levels and the integrated equalizer have, of course, been taken over from the predecessor series.”
A particularly interesting feature for multi-channel applications: PC-aided frequency management makes programming and system supervision fast and simple. Transmitters are simply synchronised with ‘their’ receivers via an infrared interface. Via the Ethernet socket on the receiver and Sennheiser’s professional software ‘Wireless Systems Manager’, the systems can be monitored and remote-controlled via a PC. Customers can easily download updates of the software at the Sennheiser website.
For vocals
The 500 Series has the highest-quality acoustics of all the evolution wireless series. The Vocal Sets are all fitted with capsules from Sennheiser’s highly successful evolution 900 stage series. In that respect, lead vocalists are pleasantly spoilt for choice. Should they go for the dynamic capsule of the e 935 with its cardioid pick-up pattern? Or should they choose the e 945 with a super-cardioid pattern in order to emphasize their vocals more clearly against sound coming from the side? As an absolute highlight, Sennheiser has adapted its new e 965 true condenser microphone for the evolution wireless G3 handheld transmitter. The large-diaphragm double-capsule microphone with the powerful, uncoloured sound and pleasant, detailed trebles can be switched between a cardioid and a super-cardioid pick-up pattern.
For instruments
The ew 572 G3 Instrument Set provides a helping hand for guitarists with its built-in guitar tuner. And those who enjoy the freedom of movement offered by a wireless system but who still consider the cable to be part of the typical guitar sound will be thrilled by the guitar cable emulator. “A guitar cable has a certain capacitance that changes the sound. For many guitarists, this characterises their typical sound,” explained Martin Fischer. “In the receiver menu, this effect can be emulated in four settings, thus generating the familiar ‘cable’ sound, or a different sound as required.” The audio frequency response of the instrument transmitter extends down to 25 Hz (Line), which is particularly interesting for bass guitarists.
For presentations
The highest quality acoustics are also a feature of the ew 512 G3 Presentation Set. The rugged bodypack transmitter receives its sound from the MKE 2-ew. The small condenser microphone with an omni-directional pick-up pattern is based on the MKE 2-Gold, one of the audio specialist’s most successful clip-on microphones.
For sound engineers
The 500 Series has up to 32 presets on 20 channel banks, and six additional banks can be freely programmed in 25 kHz steps. In order to further enhance the system’s multi-channel capability, the RF output power of the transmitters can be reduced from 30 mW to 10 mW. The transmitters of the series can be powered either by batteries or by special rechargeable battery packs. “That saves battery costs and is good for the environment,” Fischer added. Audio sensitivity is adjustable within a wider range: 48 dB for the handheld transmitter and the receiver, 60 dB for the bodypack transmitter. The sound engineer can programme the system in two levels via a large, back-lit dot matrix display. The User Level contains everything that is immediately required for a show, while the Advanced Level is reserved for programming settings that do not need to be changed every day, such as synchronisation parameters, the guitar cable emulator and warning settings.
All 500 Series systems are available from April 2009 (May 2009 for the Americas), with the exception of the ew 500-965 G3, which will be available from July (August for the Americas).
