‘On Air´ with G3:
Audio specialist Sennheiser presents “evolution wireless” ENG systems

Going ‘on air’ quickly and easily with rugged and reliable equipment: the ENG sets from the G3 evolution wireless series offer professional technology for reporting and interviews. Four systems each combine the compact EK 100 G3 diversity receiver with different transmitters, thus creating the optimum solutions for every application.

“With their automatic frequency management and wireless transmitter synchronisation, the G3 products ensure that ENG teams are ready for action in no time,” said product manager Martin Fischer. “The rugged metal housings of the transmitters and camera receiver have proven themselves in tough everyday reporting.”

Adaptive Diversity
The most important new feature of the ENG sets is the Adaptive Diversity operation of the camera receiver. Here, the receiver’s line cable takes on the function of the second antenna, “a very efficient and effective ‘trick’ to make reception even more reliable,” Fischer added.

‘No worries’ package
The ew 100 ENG G3 system makes up a complete set of reporting equipment. In addition to the camera receiver, the set also includes a bodypack transmitter with a clip-on microphone as well as a plug-on transmitter to convert wired dynamic microphones and battery-powered condenser microphones to wireless. A shoe mount adaptor and camera cables round off the system.

Those who prefer a handheld wireless microphone will be well served by Set ew 135-p. Its dynamic handheld transmitter has a cardioid pick-up pattern, thus effectively eliminating noise originating from behind.

Sets ew 112-p and ew 122-p each combine the diversity camera receiver with a bodypack transmitter and a clip-on microphone. The ME 2 with an omni-directional pick-up pattern from Set ew 112-p G3 is particularly insensitive to wind and pop noise. The microphone is also ideal for less-experienced interviewees, as it excuses movements of the head and varying speaking distances from the microphone to a certain extent. The ME 4 clip-on microphone with a cardioid pick-up pattern (Set ew 122-p G3) is perfect for interviews in rooms where a PA system is also being used. It picks up less surrounding noise and is less sensitive to feedback.

Reliable RF technology
For reporting applications, up to 1,680 switchable frequencies are now available over a 42 MHz switching bandwidth. 20 channel banks each have up to 16 presets, and six further channel banks are freely programmable in 25-kHz steps. Compared to the predecessor series, the audio frequency response and the adjustment range for the audio sensitivity have been extended, thus further enhancing sound reproduction and adaptation to the source. All settings for the transmitter and receiver are clearly shown on dot matrix displays. The bodypack transmitter, handheld transmitter, plug-on transmitter and camera receiver can also be powered by Sennheiser’s convenient rechargeable batteries, which can be recharged – except for the plug-on transmitter – while still in the device.

The ENG Sets will be available from May 2009 (July for the Americas), with the exception of the ew 100 ENG G3 system, which will be available from July (August for the Americas).
